FLORIDA DEATH ROW SURVIVORS TO
PETITION GOVERNOR BUSH AS THE FLORIDA MORATORIUM WALK
ARRIVES IN TALLAHASSEE
143 Mile Trek To Call Attention to
Death Penalty Flaws...
Floridians from across the state will be
joined by THREE OF FLORIDA's 24 EXONERATED DEATH ROW
PRISONERS as they walk the final miles of the 143 mile
walk from Florida's death row, in Rigor, to the
Governor's office. The walkers are ferrying more than
20,000 petitions calling for a Time-Out On Executions to
the Governor and the Legislature in Tallahassee. Leading
the walk to Governor Bush's office will be exonerated
Florida Death Row prisoners David Keaton, Brad Scott and
Delbert Tibbs.
"A spokesperson for Governor Bush
recently said that ' imposing a moratorium without any
basis for doing so would subvert justice.' What more
"basis" does the Governor need than the 24
innocent people released off of Florida's death
row?" said Abe Bonowitz, director of Floridians for
Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP). "Our goal
is to educate Floridians with the truth about the death
penalty. Governor Bush should remember that you can't
fool all of the people all of the time, and the latest
polls show that at least 66% of Floridians agree that
Florida needs a moratorium - a "Time-Out" - on
executions because they recognize that there are serious
flaws in the system.
More than 80 Floridians For Alternatives
to the Death Penalty gathered to begin the 143 mile walk
outside Union Correctional Institution on Martin Luther
King Day (January 21). Hundreds are expected to
participate in the final three mile walk to the office
of the Governor in Tallahassee on January 31. The
walkers are calling for an immediate "Time-Out on
Executions." Updates and photos are available at
