Statement from Sam Reese Sheppard

Attorney Terry Gilbert, lead attorney for the Estate of Dr. Samuel H. Sheppard, rested his case today in the wrongful incarceration lawsuit against the State of Ohio this morning.

At a brief press conference at the close of the today's court session, Sam Reese Sheppard, flanked by his attorneys, friends, and cousins from both the Sheppard and Reese Families, issued the following statement:

"We have accomplished our goals. We have finally been able to present our DNA evidence in a court of law. The world knows someone else was in the house. We have established that this crime was not a domestic homicide, but a crime committed by a sexual sadist. These are the facts. We continue to run an honorable case. We feel very good about it."

The media and the public are invited to visit samreesesheppard.org. For regular, informal updates from the Sheppard support team, subscribe to "Sheppardlist" using the subscription box available on the above noted webpage.

MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA, PLEASE NOTE: Sam Reese Sheppard as well as his family and legal team are engaged in a civil trial and their focus must be on the conduct of that trial. We will not participate or engage in any attempt to try this case through the media. However, whenever possible the Sheppard legal team, as well as a family representative will be available each day approximately ten minutes after the end of the daily court session for appropriate comments. Requests for in-depth interviews and appearances must be made by contacting Abe Bonowitz (Pager 888-319-1369/message 800-973-6548) and will be considered if appropriate and as time permits.
